If EGBC has assigned you academic exams and you are not sure where to begin, read these pages in this order. Each step links to a guide that covers it in full.
This page is Nivaar's own summary and is independent of EGBC. It may contain errors, so check the EGBC details against the sources below.
1. Know which exams are yours
EGBC assigns specific exams after assessing your academic record, and asks you not to register for exams before they are assigned. The guide to how EGBC's academic exams work covers the kinds of exam, attempt limits and time limits. If your assignment mixes Basic Studies and discipline exams, read Basic Studies vs discipline exams too.
2. Study from the syllabus
EGBC sets its exams from the syllabus and recommends the textbooks listed in it. It says past papers should not be your main method of study, and it publishes no answers to them. Reading the syllabus shows how to turn your exam's topic list into a checklist, and the textbooks our solutions cite most shows which books come up across our pages (a count from our pages, not EGBC's list).
3. Make a plan
A 12-week study plan puts the syllabus first and keeps past papers for the last weeks. Twelve weeks is our suggestion; how long you need depends on how much of the syllabus is new to you.
4. Practise with past papers
Most exams are three-hour sittings with hand-written answers. We suggest practising under those conditions, then comparing your attempt with a worked solution, as using worked solutions without fooling yourself explains. Time management in a 3-hour paper and checking your own answers cover the timing and the checks.
Our 14,492 worked solutions cover 1,983 past papers from 2013 to 2019, sorted by discipline and subject. They are drafted by AI, checked by scripts and spot-checked by the operator, who is an engineering graduate and not a licensed professional engineer. No licensed engineer reviews them, and they may contain errors. The exam questions are EGBC's and are not reproduced here: each page links to EGBC's past-papers page, where you read the question.
5. Get ready for exam day
The exams are written online with a live proctor, and most end with you scanning your answers into one PDF within 30 minutes. Exam day covers the equipment, aids, calculators and the upload.
6. After the sitting
Results come about 8 weeks after the exam. After the sitting covers results, re-reads, writing an exam again and deferring.
Keep exam content private
When you sit a real exam, its content is confidential, and that includes your own solutions and rough work. EGBC warns that sharing it, or trying to, may affect your application for registration. Do not send us your exam questions or answers, and do not post them anywhere.
