The textbooks our solutions cite most
Most of our paper pages open with notes that list the reference texts the solutions rely on. This page counts those lists, so you can see which books come up most often across the papers we cover. The list is computed from our own pages each time the site is built; none of it is typed by hand.
The worked solutions on this site, and the reference lists in their notes, are drafted by AI, checked by scripts and spot-checked by the operator, who is an engineering graduate and not a licensed professional engineer. No licensed engineer reviews them, and they may contain errors, so an author or title below can be wrong. The counts are approximate: a book cited in different ways can be undercounted. This is not EGBC's recommended list, and this guide is independent of EGBC.
Start with your syllabus's list
EGBC sets its exams from the syllabus. You may use any textbook, but EGBC recommends the ones in your discipline's syllabus, which lists them alongside the topics. EGBC does not sell textbooks. The guide to reading the syllabus shows where to find the list. Use the list below as a second view: the books our solutions lean on.
The list
Of our 1,983 paper pages, 1,786 carry a reference list that the build can read. These are the books those lists name most often. After each book: how many paper pages name it, and how many subjects those papers belong to.
- Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Davis & Cornwell (135 papers · 16 subjects)
- Wastewater Engineering, Metcalf & Eddy (92 papers · 12 subjects)
- Principles of Geotechnical Engineering, Das (71 papers · 11 subjects)
- Mechanics of Materials, Hibbeler (70 papers · 11 subjects)
- Structural Analysis, Hibbeler (68 papers · 8 subjects)
- Digital Design, Mano & Ciletti (66 papers · 9 subjects)
- Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer, Incropera & DeWitt (60 papers · 12 subjects)
- Thermodynamics, Çengel & Boles (60 papers · 9 subjects)
- Structural Analysis, Kassimali (58 papers · 7 subjects)
- Microelectronic Circuits, Sedra & Smith (57 papers · 9 subjects)
- Materials Science and Engineering, Callister & Rethwisch (56 papers · 9 subjects)

- Craig's Soil Mechanics, Craig & Knappett (51 papers · 8 subjects)
- Modern Control Engineering, Ogata (50 papers · 6 subjects)
- Electric Machinery Fundamentals, Chapman (49 papers · 7 subjects)
- Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, Transportation Association of Canada (44 papers · 9 subjects)
- Handbook of Steel Construction, CISC (44 papers · 5 subjects)

- Software Engineering, Sommerville (42 papers · 9 subjects)
How the list is made
- For each paper page, the build reads the "Reference texts" list in the notes at the top.
- A book counts once per paper, however many times the list mentions it.
- Books are matched by first author and main title, so different editions and subtitles count as one book. Editions differ from paper to paper, so the list shows none.
- Codes and standards, such as CSA standards or building codes, are left out because they are not textbooks. Handbooks and design guides stay in.
- Books are ranked by the number of papers that name them. A tie goes to the book used in more subjects, then to the title in alphabetical order.
- The counts follow what we cover: a subject with many past sittings adds many papers. A book high on this list is common in our pages, which says nothing about whether it suits your exam.
Using it
- If a book here is also on your syllabus's list, solutions that cite it are easier to check against your own copy.
- When a solution disagrees with your textbook, check the step in the textbook or the standard before trusting either. Every solution page has a Report an error button, and confirmed errors are listed on the corrections page.
Keep exam content private
When you sit a real exam, its content is confidential, and that includes your own solutions and rough work. EGBC warns that sharing it, or trying to, may affect your application for registration. Do not send us your exam questions or answers, and do not post them anywhere.
